Reaction Steps
The title compound was prepared by catalytic hydrogenation of 2,3-dihydro-1H-cyclopenta[b]quinoline (0.5 g, 2.43 mmol) in the presence of PtO2 and hydrogen (45 psi) in methanol (50 ml) to give the cis and trans isomers. Separation by flash chromatography (10–30% ethyl acetate/petroleum ether) gave the title compounds as light yellow solids (75%).
