A mixture of 2-[4-(6-fluoro-1,2-benzisoxazol-3-yl)-1-piperidinyl]ethylamine (2.44 gm, 9.24 mmoles) and 3,6-dichlorophthalic anhydride (2.01 gm; 9.27 mmoles) in dichloromethane (DCM, 50 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. White precipitates formed and the TLC of the reaction mixture showed that there was no starting amine remaining. The solvent was stripped down and the white solids which were poorly soluble in DCM were loaded onto a flash chromatography column, (SiO2; 30 gm) and the column was eluted with a solution of 1% CH3OH in DCM. The desired product thus obtained weighed 2.29 gm (54%). Recrystallization from hot ethanol yielded 2.15 gm of white crystals, m.p.=163°-164° C.
