Procedure
A solution of 5 g (23.5 mmol) 6-amino-2,3-dihydroxyquinoxaline hydrochloride in 250 ml 0.5 N H2SO4 is cooled to 0° C. and then a solution of 1.65 g (24 mmol) NaNO2 in 50 ml water is added. After stirring at 0° C. for 15 min., a solution of 1.5 g (24 mmol) NaN3 in 100 ml water is added. Stirring at 0° C. for 45 min. gives a precipitate of 3 g (67%) 6-azido-2,3-dihydroxyquinoxaline. IR: a peak at 2220 cm−1.
