1.38 g (1.81 mmol) 6-({3,5-bis{[(2,2,5-trimethyl-1,3-dioxan-5-yl)carbonyl]oxy}benzoyl}oxy)hexyl 3,5-dinitrobenzoate was dissolved in 20 ml methanol. 0.50 g of Dowex 50Wx2 resin and the reaction mixture was stirred for 4 hours at room temperature. The Dowex resin was filtered off and washed with methanol. The filtrate was concentrated by rotary evaporation yielded 1.14 g (92%) 6-[(3,5-dinitrobenzoyl)oxy]hexyl 3,5-bis{[2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propanoyl]oxy}benzoate as a colorless viscous oil.
