A suspension of tert-butyl(6-benzyloxy-4-butoxy-2-isobutyl-1-oxo-1,2-dihydro-3-isoquinolinyl)methylcarbamate (6.10 g, 12 mmol) and 5% palladium carbon (2.0 g) in tetrahydrofuran (30 mL) and ethanol (30 mL) was stirred under a hydrogen atmosphere at room temperature for 2 h. The catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The obtained crystals were recrystallized from ethyl acetate-diisopropyl ether to give tert-butyl (4-butoxy-6-hydroxy-2-isobutyl-1-oxo-1,2-dihydro-3-isoquinolinyl)methylcarbamate (4.86 g, 96.8%) as crystals.
