Reaction Steps

A solution of tert-butyl 6-benzyloxy-2-isobutyl-1-oxo-4-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-3-isoquinolinecarboxylate (9.03 g, 25 mmol) in trifluoroacetic acid (30 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 3 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and the obtained crystals were recrystallized from ethyl acetate-diisopropyl ether to give 6-benzyloxy-2-isobutyl-1-oxo-4-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-3-isoquinolinecarboxylic acid (3.50 g, 82.0%) as crystals.
