To a solution of crude tert-butyl[6-(aminomethyl)-2-isobutyl-1-oxo-4-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-3-isoquinolinyl]methylcarbamate (0.016 g) (Example 285) in tetrahydrofuran (2 mL) was added isobutyryl chloride (0.038 mL, 0.36 mmol) and triethylamine (0.050 mL, 0.36 mmol), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 h. The reaction mixture was washed with water (4 mL) and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (n-hexane:ethyl acetate=4:1 (v/v)) to give tert-butyl{2-isobutyl-6-[(isobutyrylamino)methyl]-1-oxo-4-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-3-isoquinolinyl}methylcarbamate (0.11 g, 75%) as a pale yellow solid.
