Procedure

To a stirred solution of 5-(4-(benzyloxy)phenyl)-2,2-dimethyl-4-(pyridin-4-yl) furan-3(2H)-one (620 mg, 0.001 mmol) in MeOH (15 mL) was added Pd (OH)2 (120 mg, 0.85 mmol) at RT under an inert atmosphere. The reaction mixture was stirred under a hydrogen atmosphere for 1 h. The reaction mixture was then filtered through a pad of Celite® and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to obtain the crude product. The crude material was purified via silica gel column chromatography to afford 544-hydroxyphenyl)-2,2-dimethyl-4-(pyridin-4-yl) furan-3(2H)-one (280 mg, 60%) as a solid.
