A solution of 2-(9-phenethyloxy-nonyloxy)-tetrahydro-pyran (890 mg, 2.55 mmol) in acetic acid/tetrahydrofuran/water 4:2:1 (23 mL) was stirred at 45° C. for 4 h. After evaporation, the residue was purified by chromatography (SiO2; heptane-ethyl acetate gradient), affording 9-phenethyloxy-nonan-1-ol (513 mg, 76%). Colorless oil, m/e=265.3 ([M+H]+).
