To a solution of tert-butyl{3-[(6-aminopyridin-3-yl)oxy]phenyl}carbamate (4.60 g, 15.2 mmol) in dimethyl sulfoxide (90 mL) was added ethoxycarbonyl isothiocyanate (2.00 mL, 16.7 mmol), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5 days. Water (200 mL) was added to the reaction mixture, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (400 mL). The organic layer was washed with 5% aqueous ammonium chloride solution (200 mL), 5% aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution (200 mL) and saturated brine (200 mL), and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The insoluble material was filtered off, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate=90/10→50/50), and fractions containing the object product was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (4.56 g, 69%) as a colorless solid.
