Reaction Steps
To a solution of 3-(1-cyano-1-methylethyl)benzoic acid (2.62 g, 13.9 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (30 mL) were added oxalyl chloride (1.4 mL, 16.4 mmol) and N,N-dimethylformamide (40 μL), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to give 3-(1-cyano-1-methylethyl)benzoyl chloride as a pale-yellow oil.
