Methyl iodide → HCID 22406041, compound
Reaction equation
[CH2:1]([N:5]1[CH2:11][CH2:10][CH2:9][CH2:8][CH2:7][CH2:6]1)[CH2:2][CH2:3][CH3:4].[CH3:12][I:13]>>[I-:13].[CH2:1]([N+:5]1([CH3:12])[CH2:11][CH2:10][CH2:9][CH2:8][CH2:7][CH2:6]1)[CH2:2][CH2:3][CH3:4]Participants
Procedure
Procedure 1b—Following this, a second N-substitution was carried out on the 1-butylazepane using methyl iodide as an N-alkylating agent to form 1-butyl-1-methylazepanium iodide. A slight excess of methyl iodide was added dropwise to 1-butylazepane in dichloromethane keeping the temperature below 20° C. by an ice-water bath. The reaction mixture was then allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred until complete conversion of amine (as determined using 1H NMR). Diethyl ether was then added to the reaction mixture and the white precipitate (1-butyl-1-methyl-azepanium iodide) filtered, washed with ether and dried in air. δH (300 MHz, CDCl3) 3.40 (4H, m), 3.30 (2H, m), 3.02 (3H, s), 1.90 (4H, m), 1.78 (6H, m), 1.40 (2H, m), 1.00 (3H, t).
