Procedure
To a suspension of 3-bromo-5-iodo-benzoic acid (6.5 g, 20 mmol) in 25 mL of methanol was added SOCl2 (1.14 mL, 40 mmol) dropwise at 0° C. The mixture was then warmed to room temperature and stirred at room temperature for 2 days. The precipitates formed were collected by filtration to afford the desired product as white solid 5.12 g (75%). LC/MS m/e calcd. for C8H6BrIO2: 341, observed (M+H)+: 342.2.
