Step E In a manner similar to the method described in Example 1a, glycine tert-butyl ester (1.0 g, 7.8 mmol) was reacted with 3-ethyl-3-methyl-pentanal (1 g, 7.8 mmol) in CH2Cl2 at room temperature for 5 h to give [3-ethyl-3-methyl-pent-(E)-ylideneamino]-acetic acid tert-butyl ester as a colorless oil (1.9 g, 100%).
