Step C In a manner similar to the method described in Example 1a, glycine tert-butyl ester (0.32 g, 2.45 mmol) was reacted with 5-azido-3,3-dimethyl-pentanal (0.38 g, 2.45 mmol) in CH2Cl2 at room temperature for 18 h to give [5-azido-3,3-dimethyl-pent-(E)-ylideneamino]-acetic acid tert-butyl ester as a yellow oil (0.65 g, 100%).
