Procedure
A sealed tube was charged with a mixture of N-(4-chlorobenzyl)-7-methyl-2-((methylamino)methyl)-4-oxo-4,7-dihydrofuro[2,3-b]pyridine-5-carboxamide (Example 62, 3.21 g), epi-chlorohydrin (0.90 mL), and ethanol (80 mL). The mixture was heated to 80° C. overnight and then concentrated. The crude product was purified by column chromatography (acetone/CHCl3/NH4OH, 1/1/0.5%) to yield 1.62 g of the title compound as a white solid. Physical characteristics. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 10.65, 8.55, 7.39, 7.33, 5.08, 4.54, 3.93, 3.84, 3.75-3.65, 3.56, 2.53, 2.39, 2.28.
