(S)-1-(5-hydroxyhexyl)-7-methylxanthine was synthesized from (R)-1-(5-hydroxyhexyl)-7-methylxanthine according to the method described in Example 30 for the synthesis of (S)-7-benzyl-1-(5-hydroxyhexyl)-3-methylxanthine from (R)-7-benzyl-1-(5-hydroxyhexyl)-3-methylxanthine.
