250 mg of (3R,3aS,6aR)-hexahydrofuro[2,3-b]furan-3-yl (1S,2R)-3-[(2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-6-ylsulfonyl)(isobutyl)amino]-2-hydroxy-1-(4-benzyloxybenzyl)propylcarbamate, 2 mL of 2,2-dimethoxypropane, 0.5 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid in 50 mL of dichloromethane were refluxed for 3 h and then extracted with sodium bicarbonate solution. Chromatography on silica gel (1:1 ehtylacetate/hexanes) gave 220 mg of the desired compound as an oil which was dissolved in methanol and hydrogenated (at 50 psi) over 5% palladium on carbon. Filtration and evaporation of the volatiles gave the desired title compound as an oil
