3β-tert-Butyldimethylsilyloxy-4,4-dimethyl-5α-cholesta-8,14-dien-24-one (0.1 g) is dissolved in 5 ml of ethanol, 0.2 ml of 6N hydrogen chloride is added and the mixture is stirred for 2 days. After aqueous work-up, column chromatography and crystallization from ethanol/-water, the title compound (64 mg) is obtained. 1H-NMR (CDCl3, 400 MHz): δ=5.35 (1H, s); 8.24 (1H, m); 2.62 (1H, m). MS: Calculated: 426.7. Found 426.3.
