Reaction Steps

10% wt Pd/C (0.17 g 0.16 mmol) was added to a solution of compound 40.1 (0.44 g, 1.6 mmol) in MeOH (10 mL). The resulting reaction mixture was stirred under a hydrogen atmosphere (1 atm via a balloon). After 2 hours, the reaction mixture was filtered thru a plug of Celite and the resulting filtrate concentrated to provide [2-(4-amino-2-methyl-imidazol-1-yl)-ethyl]-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (compound 40.2; 0.3 g, 77%). ES (+) MS m/e=241(M+1).
