A solution of 4-fluoro-2-nitrobenzaldehyde (0.20 g, 1.2 mmol) in DMSO (3.5 mL) was added with 1-methanesulfonylpiperazine (0.71 g, 3.5 mmol), followed by stirring at 100° C. for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was added with water and the organic layer was extracted with hexane/ethyl acetate (4/1) to remove impurities. The aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate and the obtained organic layer was washed with water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and evaporated under reduced pressure to obtain 4-(4-methanesulfonylpiperazin-1-yl)-2-nitrobenzaldehyde (0.36 g,
