Reaction Steps
A solution of 3-(4-{3-[4-chloro-2-(2-fluoro-phenoxy)-phenoxy]-phenoxy}-2-methyl-phenyl)-propionic acid methyl ester (72 mg, 0.1 mmol) in MeOH (10 mL) is treated with 5N aqueous sodium hydroxide (0.3 mL). The reaction is heated to reflux and stirred for 2 hr. The reaction is cooled to room temperature and quenched with 1N aqueous HCl to pH=4. The aqueous is extracted with diethyl ether. The organic is washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate and filtered. The solvent is removed to afford about 60 mg (87%) of product. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3); MS (ES+) m/z mass calcd for C28H22ClFO5 506, found 524 (M+NH4, 100%).
