Procedure
7.82 g of 4-amino-3-nitrophenol in 460 ml of methanol were hydrogenated with catalytic amount of palladium on carbon (800 mg, 10% Pd/C). After hydrogen uptake was complete, the catalyst was filtered off, washed with methanol and the filtrate was concentred under reduced pressure to give 6 g of crude 3,4-diaminophenol.
