2-(5-Amino-4-chloro-2-nitro-phenylthio)-N,N-dimethyl-benzamide (18) (1.0 g, 2.84 mmol) was heated to reflux with methyl iodide 1.0 g) and potassium carbonate (5 g) in 10 mL of anhydrous DMF for 24 h. The mixture was poured into cold water and the precipitate was collected by filtration and purified by silica gel chromatography to yield 22 (Yellow powder, 0.7 g, 65%): IR (cm−1, neat) 2923, 1636, 1577, 1498, 1322, 1299; 1H NMR (200 MHz CDCl3) δ 8.23 (s. 1H), 7.4–7.6 (m, 4H), 6.20 (s, 1H), 3.04 (s, 3H), 2.82 (s, 3H), 2.71 (s, 6H).
