Reaction Steps
Ethyl 2-ethyl-3-[4-methoxy-3-[[N-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]carbamoyl]methyl]phenyl]propanoate (206 mg, 0.471 mmol), ethanol (5 mL) and 10% aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (3 mL) were mixed and the mixture was stirred for 6 hours at room temperature. The reaction mixture was poured into ice water and made acidic with 1 mol/L hydrochloric acid, which was then extracted with ethyl acetate. The extracte was washed with water and brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and then concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent n-hexane:ethyl acetate=4:1→1:1 v/v) and recrystallized from a mixed solvent of n-hexane with ethyl acetate to afford 142 mg (73%) of the title compound as colorless powder.
