Reaction Steps

A mixture of 3.37 g (10.0 millimoles) of 8-methyl-5-(3-methyl-4-nitro-phenyl)-9H-1,3-dioxolo[4,5-h][2,3]benzodiazepine and 25 ml acetyl chloride is stirred under boiling for 3 hours, whereupon the acid chloride is distilled off in vacuo. The residue is taken up in 100 ml of dichloro methane, washed with 50 ml of a saturated sodium carbonate solution and 50 ml of water. The organic phase is dried over magnesium sulfate and evaporated in vacuo. The crude product obtained is recrystallized from 50 ml of acetonitrile. Thus 2.62 g of the desired compound are obtained, yield 69%, mp.: 115–116° C.
