5-(3,4,5,6-Tetramethoxy-2-methylbenzyl)-2-benzyloxybenzoic acid (159.53 g, 1.156 mmol) was dissolved in ethanol (20 ml) and after adding thereto an ethanol suspension (3 ml) of 5% Pd—C (0.250 g), the solution was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours in a hydrogen stream. The reaction solution was filtered, the filtrate was concentrated, and the obtained residue was recrystallized from ether to obtain the titled compound (0.630 g, 1.74 mmol, 79%).
