Procedure

4-(3,4,5,6-Tetramethoxy-2-methylbenzyl)-2-hydroxybenzoic acid (97 mg, 0.2679 mmol) was dissolved in acetic anhydride (20 ml) and the resulting solution was refluxed under heating for 2 hours. The reaction solution was concentrated and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (5% methanol-methylene chloride) to obtain the titled compound (65 mg, 0.1608 mmol, 60%).
