5-(2,5-Dimethoxy-3,4,6-trimethylbenzyl)-2-hydroxybenzoic acid (0.150 g, 0.455 mmol) was dissolved in acetic anhydride (3 ml) and the resulting solution was stirred at 80° C. for 1 hour. The reaction solution was diluted with water and then extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water and then dried, and the solvent was removed by distillation. The obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexand:ethyl acetate=2:1) to obtain the titled compound (0.170 g, 0.454 mmol, 99%).
