Reaction Steps
2.3 g. of 8-chloro-2-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrido[3,4-e]pyrimidin-5(4H)-one are hydrogenated in 50 ml. of dimethylformamide in the presence of 10% palladium on charcoal and 2 g. of triethylamine at 80° and 3 atmospheres hydrogen pressure. When the hydrogen absorption ceases, the solution is heated to reflux temperature and then filtered. After addition of 20 ml. of water, 2-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrido[3,4-e]pyrimidin-5(4H)-one crystallizes, yield: 1.8 g. (90%); m.p. > 300°.
