Procedure
2 g of ReCl5, 1 g of gallium trichloride, and 1 g of lithium chloride were dissolved in 720 ml of glacial acetic acid and 80 ml of acetic acid anhydride. After saturation with propylene, 20 atmospheres of oxygen were introduced under pressure and the mixture heated to 150° C. Distillation of the reaction solution gave 8.9 g of propylene glycol diacetate and 1 g of the monoacetate.
