Reaction Steps
Methyl pheophorbide-a (5) (1.3 g, 2.09 mmol) was dissolved in 100 mL of pyridine and stirred at reflux for 8 hours under nitrogen in the dark. Pyridine was removed by evaporation and the residue was recrystallized from dichloromethane/methanol to give 1.08 g (92%) of methyl pyropheophorbide-a (39). UV/vis Omax (H)(CH2Cl2): 410 (112500), 509 (11400), 537 (9800), 611 (8500), 669 (47000) nm.
