Reaction Steps

A mixture of 2-chloro-N-(4-{2-[(5-isopropyl-1,3-thiazol-2-yl)amino]-2-oxoethyl}-1,3-thiazol-2-yl)acetamide (0.5 g, 1.4 mmol), 2M dimethylamine in methanol (3.5 ml, 7 mmol) and potassium iodide (0.116 g, 0.7 mmol) was refluxed for about 6 hours. After cooling, the solution was diluted with water, acidified with 1N HCl and extracted with diethyl ether to eliminate the unreacted products. The aqueous solution was then basified with 1N NaOH and extracted with diethyl ether. The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated. The residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel, using CH2Cl2:MeOH 97:3 and then 95:5 as eluent. The title compound was obtained in 20% yield (0.1 g) as a light yellow solid.
