41.7 g of benzyl 4-[4-(tert-butyloxycarbonylaminomethyl)benzylaminocarbonyl]piperazine-1-carboxylate (starting material A5) in 1.0 l of methanol are hydrogenated over palladium/carbon (5%) for 4 h. The catalyst is filtered off and the solvent is removed, giving 30.3 g of the title compound as a colorless oil.
