To 4.7 g (13.2 mmol) of 7-(3,5-dimethoxy-phenyl)-5-ethyl-3-methylsulfanyl-5H-pyrido[2,3-e]-1,2,4-triazin-6-ylideneamine was added 55 mL of acetic anhydride. The reaction mixture was warmed at 90° C. overnight, and the very dark red solution was concentrated under house vacuum at 40° C. to give a dark brown residue, N-[7-(3,5-dimethoxy-phenyl)-5-ethyl-3-methylsulfanyl-5H-pyrido[2,3-e]-1,2,4-triazin-6-ylidene]-acetamide.
