To a solution of benzyl 4-{[tert-butyl(dimethyl)silyl]oxy}-5-methyl-3-oxohexanoate (0.39 g, 1.06 mmol) in toluene (5.3 mL) were added 1,1-dimethoxy-N,N-dimethylmethanamine (0.21 mL, 1.59 mmol). The mixture was heated to 110° C. After 18 h, excess amount of 1,1-dimethoxy-N,N-dimethylmethanamine was added and the mixture was concentrated. Purification by silica gel chromatography (75% hexanes/ethyl acetate 25% hexanes/ethyl acetate) gave the title compound (0.133 g).
