To a stirred solution of 2-(4-nitrophenyl)propane-1,2,3-triol (1.1 g, 5.164 mmol, 1.0 eq) in ethanol (25 mL) was added 10% Pd/C (200 mg) and the mixture was stirred under a H2 gas balloon at RT for 1 h. The reaction mixture was passed through a celite bed and the solvent of the filtrate was evaporated to get 2-(4-aminophenyl)propane-1,2,3-triol (900 mg, 95%, solid; TLC system: MeOH/CHCl3 (1:9), Rf: 0.3).
