Procedure

A mixture of 2-bromo-1-(4-(4-ethylphenoxy)-2,6-dimethylphenyl)ethanone (7.70 g, 22.2 mmol) and thiourea (1.69 g, 22.2 mmol) in 95% EtOH (31.7 mL) was heated at reflux for 180 min. The solution was concentrated and added with water (100 mL) and saturated aqueous Na2CO3 (5.0 mL). The resultant precipitate was filtered and recrystallized in toluene. The solids were filtered and dried under vacuum to give 4-(4-(4-ethylphenoxy)-2,6-dimethylphenyl)thiazol-2-amine (6.30 g) as yellow solids in 88% yield: 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.18 (d, J=7.5 Hz, 2 H), 6.95 (d, J=8.5, 2 H), 6.71 (s, 2 H), 6.29 (s, 1 H), 5.45 (bs, 2 H), 2.64 (q, J=7.5 Hz, 2 H), 2.14 (s, 6 H), 1.25 (t, J=8.0 Hz, 3 H).
