6-Fluoro-2-(4-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-3-yl)-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2H)-one (78A: 600 mg, 1.93 mmol) was reacted with concentrated H2SO4 (5 mL) and KNO3 (215.2 mg, 2.12 mmol) for 4 hours to afford 550 mg of the product (79.9% yield).
