10% Pd/C (50 mg) was added to a solution of 4-benzyloxy-3-(2,5-dimethyl-phenyl)-5-(1,1-dioxo-hexahydro-1λ6-thiopyran-4-ylmethyl)-1,5-dihydro-pyrrol-2-one (280 mg, 0.64 mmol) in 20 ml of methanol and the mixture was hydrogenated for 2 h. Then, the resulting mixture was filtered and the filtrate was evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel. Yield: 200 mg of 3-(2,5-dimethyl-phenyl)-5-(1,1-dioxo-hexahydro-1λ6-thiopyran-4-ylmethyl)-4-hydroxy-1,5-dihydro-pyrrol-2-one (title compound P2.6) as a solid, mp 244-246° C.
