A mixture of 5-methoxy-N1-((2-(methylthio)benzo[d]oxazol-6-yl)methyl)benzene-1,2-diamine (920 mg, 2.92 mmol), triethoxymethane (8.8 mL) and HCOOH (0.2 mL) was stirred at 90° C. for 40 min. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography eluting with 1:2 petroleum ether/ethyl acetate to give 6-((6-methoxy-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)methyl)-2-(methylthio)benzo[d]oxazole as a light brown solid (799 mg, 84.1%). 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 8.28 (s, 1H), 7.68 (s, 1H), 7.59 (d, J=8.1 Hz, 1H), 7.52 (d, J=9.0 Hz, 1H), 7.33 (d, J=6.6 Hz, 1H), 7.15 (s, 1H), 6.80 (d, J=6.6 Hz, 1H), 5.54 (s, 2H), 3.75 (s, 3H), 2.73 (s, 3H). LCMS (ESI) m/z 326 (M+H)+.
