To a solution of 3-(2-{[4-chloro-3-(6-cyano-4-methyl-pyridin-3-yl)-benzoyl]-methyl-amino}-6-methyl-phenoxy)-propionic acid (160 mg, 0.35 mmol) in DCM (15 mL) was added oxalyl chloride (45.2 μL, 0.52 mmol) and 1 drop of DMF. The solution was stirred for 30 minutes before addition of ethanol (5 mL). The solution was stirred for a further 30 minutes at which time the solvent was evaporated and the residue purified by preparative TLC [eluent: 50% ethyl acetate in hexane] to yield 3-(2-{[4-chloro-3-(6-cyano-4-methyl-pyridin-3-yl)-benzoyl]-methyl-amino}-6-methyl-phenoxy)-propionic acid ethyl ester 16-1 (125 mg). MS [M+H]+: 492.4; tR=5.45 min. (method 4).
