Procedure

A 2 M aqueous solution of KOH (1.5 mL) was added to a solution of methyl 4-((1-((1H-indol-6-yl)methyl)azetidin-3-ylidene)methyl)-3-chlorobenzoate (0.3 g, 0.82 mmol) in MeOH (7 mL) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The mixture was then evaporated under reduced pressure and water (10 mL) was added to the residue. The solution was carefully acidified to pH 5 with a 3 M aqueous solution of HCl. The precipitated solid was extracted with ethyl acetate. The EtOAc layer was washed with water (2×10 mL) and brine (1×15 mL). It was dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to give 4-((1-((1H-indol-6-yl)methyl)azetidin-3-ylidene)methyl)-3-chlorobenzoic acid as a white solid (0.26 g). ES+(M+H)+353.
