5-bromo-6-chloro-3-((4-fluorophenyl)ethynyl)pyridin-2-yl acetate (5.5 g, 15 mmol) was suspended in MeOH (75 ml) and K2CO3 (4.12 g, 29.8 mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred at rt for 1 h. At this point, LCMS and TLC show no remaining SM. The mixture was then sparged with a balloon of CO for ten minutes and carried onto the following step, carbonylative coupling, without isolation.
