A solution of (3-methyl-4-chloro-pyridin-2-yl)-cyclopropyl-methanol (7.01 g, 35.5 mmol) in dichloromethane (80 mL) was treated with MnO2 (30.8 g, 355 mmol) at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was filtered through a pad of Celite and the filtrate was concentrated to dryness, affording the title compound (6.82 g, 98%). ESI-MS m/z: 196 (M+H)+; 1H NMR (CDCl3, 300 MHz) δ ppm: 8.41 (d, J=5.4 Hz, 1H), 7.42 (d, J=5.4 Hz, 1H), 2.96-3.04 (m, 1H), 2.57 (s, 3H), 1.20-1.28 (m, 2H), 1.14-1.09 (m, 2H).
