9.0 g (0.029 mol) of 1-diphenylmethyl-4-(3-aminopropyl)-piperazine are dissolved in 30 ml of toluene and according to process alternative (a) mixed with stirring with a mixture of 4.6 g (0.029 mol) of methyl 3-isocyanatoisovalerate and 20 ml of toluene. The mixture is heated for 30 minutes to approximately 70° C., evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure and the oily residue rubbed after the addition of diethyl ether. The methyl 3-(1-diphenylmethylpiperazin-4-ylpropylureido)-isovalerate thus obtained is pure according to its thin-layer chromatogram. ##STR20## Yield: 9.8 g (72% of theory).
