Reaction Steps
A solution of 1.81 g of methyl 2-[5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-isoxazolyl]benzoate in 8 ml concentrated HCl and 8 ml of acetic acid was held at reflux for 4 hours, cooled, diluted with water, and filtered to give 1.71 g (99%) of white solid, mp 182°-185° C. Recrystallization of the solid from CH3CN gave 1.27 g (73%) of solid, mp 186°-187.5° C.
