7-Hydroxy-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4-[3-(5-(4,4,5,5,5-pentafluoropentylthio)pentyloxy)phenyl]-2,3-dihydro-4H-benzopyran (90 mg, 0.15 mmol) was dissolved in 1,4-dioxane (1.5 ml), methanol (1.5 ml) and water (0.38 ml), and NaIO4 (35.5 mg, 0.16 mmol) was added dropwise thereto. The reaction solution was stirred for 8 hours at room temperature and then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated and the residue was separated by column chromatography (n-hexane:ethyl acetate=1:1) to obtain 58 mg (yield: 63%, 3RS,4RS/3RS,4SR=1:1) of the title compound as a colorless oil.
