Procedure
To a solution of the objective compound of step (3) (1.65 g, 3.58 mmol) in methanol (25 ml) was added 10% palladium-carbon (378 mg) under a nitrogen atmosphere, and the mixture was stirred under a hydrogen atmosphere at room temperature for 24 hours. The catalyst was filtered off, followed by washing with methanol, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give 1.14 g (yield 98%) of 2-amino-1-hydroxy-1-[5-(methoxycarbonyl)benzoxazol-2-yl]-3-phenylpropane as a light-brown solid.
