Procedure
An aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide (85%, 0.13 g) was added to a solution of ethyl 2-(2-phenoxyethyl)-3-[4-[2-(4-pyridine-2-ylbenzoylamino)ethoxy]phenyl]propionate (350 mg) in ethanol (8 ml). The mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 3 hours. At the end of this time the ethanol was evaporated under reduced pressure. An aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride (1N, 2.0 ml) and ethyl acetate was added to the residue. The ethyl acetate layer was separated and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (260 mg) as a mass of foam.
